RESOLUTE PARTY WILL NOT PARTICIPATE IN UPCOMING BY-ELECTIONS

Resolute Party (RP) leader Dr Martin Phiri says his party will not participate in the upcoming parliamentary, mayoral and ward by-elections, but will instead support the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND).

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set November 5, 2026 as the date for the Lumezi North and Mandevu parliamentary by-elections, the Mbala mayoral election and 11 ward elections in Luapula, Muchinga, North-Western, Western and Southern provinces.

Dr Phiri said the decision reflected the party’s current position to support the UPND rather than field candidates in the upcoming polls.

The Resolute Party previously housed Tonse Pamodzi Alliance running mate Makebi Zulu but left the alliance ahead of the August 13, 2026 general elections and opted to support President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND.

The party currently has five Members of Parliament following the 2026 general elections.
