RUSSIA AND CHINA REPORTEDLY ASSISTING IRAN’S ADVANCED MISSILE PROGRAM
Russia and China are reportedly providing direct assistance to Iran’s efforts to develop and produce advanced long-range missile technology, according to reports citing intelligence and leaked documents.
The Financial Times has reported that leaked Russian correspondence, travel records and military patents point to a covert program, reportedly codenamed “C430L,” that has been operating since 2023 and continued during recent military confrontations involving Iran, Israel and the United States.
According to the reports, Russian missile specialists have allegedly assisted Iran with the development of a specialized ramjet propulsion system, technology that could allow cruise missiles to maintain high speeds while flying at low altitudes. Such characteristics can make missiles more difficult for naval air-defense systems to detect, track and intercept.
If successfully integrated into Iran’s missile arsenal, the technology could potentially increase the threat posed to U.S. naval forces, including aircraft carriers, destroyers and other warships operating in the Middle East.
My Take:
It is increasingly clear that Russia and China have strategic interests in preventing the United States from achieving its objectives against Iran. Their reported support for Tehran reflects a broader geopolitical contest in which Moscow and Beijing seek to counter American influence in the Middle East.
However, Iran’s growing dependence on Russia and China could also carry significant consequences. Tehran may gain access to advanced technology and military cooperation, but deeper reliance on the two powers could further isolate Iran from the West and intensify the broader confrontation surrounding its nuclear and missile programs.
Ultimately, Iran’s decision to place greater trust in Moscow and Beijing could strengthen its military capabilities while simultaneously exposing the country to greater geopolitical pressure and long-term strategic risks.
