Russia Condemns Merz’s Ukraine Visit as Zakharova Says “Murderers Return to the Crime Scene”
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has sharply criticized German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s visit to Kyiv, accusing Germany and other Western countries of supporting Ukraine’s military actions against Russia.
Commenting on Merz’s visit on Sunday, October 4, 2026, Zakharova reportedly said:
“Murderers return to the scene of the crime.”
Her remarks reflect the increasingly hostile relationship between Moscow and Berlin, as Russia continues to condemn Germany’s military, financial and political support for Ukraine.
Russian officials have repeatedly accused Western governments of being directly involved in the conflict through weapons deliveries, financial assistance and logistical support to Kyiv.
Moscow has also portrayed visits by Western leaders to Kyiv as evidence of what it describes as active Western involvement in the war, rather than diplomatic or solidarity missions.
