RUSSIA STRIKES UKRAINIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES AS RESCUERS SEARCH BUILDING
Russia has struck a building belonging to the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Firefighters are battling the resulting blaze while rescue crews search for anyone who may remain inside. All available emergency services have been deployed
The Academy of Sciences was only one of several civilian sites attacked. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said a pharmaceutical company and petrol stations were struck in Kyiv, while a business center was hit in Dnipro. Civilian facilities, private enterprises and communications infrastructure were also targeted across other cities and regions.
Deaths have been reported, although the full number of casualties remains unclear as emergency operations continue. Zelenskyy expressed his condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed.
He promised that Ukraine would respond and urged its partners to recognize what continued support for Ukraine represents: protecting human life and refusing to allow Russian terror to become accepted as normal.
A scientific institution, a pharmaceutical company, businesses and communications facilities are not abstract points on a military map. They are places where Ukrainians study, work and live.
