RUSSIAN CARGO PLANE LANDS AGAIN IN BUSHEHR, IRAN
A Russian Il-76TD cargo aircraft, registration RA-76834, reportedly operated from Novosibirsk and has landed in Bushehr, southern Iran, for the second time this week.
The repeated arrival is drawing attention because Bushehr hosts Iran’s only operating nuclear power reactor, Bushehr-1, which was constructed with Russian assistance. Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom is also involved in the construction of Bushehr Units 2 and 3.
The Il-76 is a heavy-lift transport aircraft widely used by Russia for moving personnel, machinery and other specialized cargo. Aircraft of this type have previously been used to support Russian nuclear-related operations and engineering activities abroad.
The latest flight has therefore sparked speculation over whether the aircraft is carrying Russian personnel, nuclear-industry equipment or other supplies connected to ongoing cooperation between Moscow and Tehran.
However, the specific cargo aboard RA-76834 has not been publicly confirmed, and the aircraft’s presence alone does not establish that nuclear material or sensitive equipment was transported.
The repeated Russian flights come amid heightened international scrutiny of Russia-Iran military, energy and nuclear cooperation, making the movements into Bushehr particularly significant.
