Instead of asking for food, water, or a final chance to speak with his family, Saddam allegedly made an unexpected request:
“Bring me my coat.”
Those around him were reportedly surprised, wondering why he would need a coat in his final moments.
He is said to have calmly explained:
“Baghdad is cold today. I don’t want my body to be seen trembling. I don’t want my people to think I was afraid to die.”
