SPANISH FOOTBALL MOURNS AS JESÚS DE MIGUEL DIES AFTER MATCH COLLISION

Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel has died aged 30, a day after suffering a cardiac arrest following a collision during a Spanish second-division match against FC Andorra.

The incident occurred in stoppage time on Monday, November 2, when Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono rushed out to challenge for a long ball and struck the forward in the chest with his knee.

De Miguel collapsed and received emergency medical treatment before being rushed to hospital. The match was abandoned with the teams level at 2–2, while Owono was shown a red card.

Tenerife confirmed the striker’s death on Tuesday morning, plunging his family, teammates and supporters into mourning. The club announced six days of mourning and suspended team activities.

Spanish police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of his death. Prosecutors have indicated that criminal proceedings are unlikely because the collision occurred during play.

Tributes have poured in from across football, with UEFA arranging moments of silence at matches in his memory.
