STATEMENT BY SYDNEY ZYAMBO ON THE ARREST OF HON. FAITH MUNTHALI
Today my heart is heavy.
I stand here not just as a citizen, but as a Zambian father, a son of this soil, and a man who believes our forefathers fought too hard for democracy to watch it slip through our fingers.
The i strongly condemns the way the Zambia Police Service arrested Hon Munthali , our duly elected Member of Parliament.
This was not just an arrest. This was a message.
And the message it sends is dangerous
Hon. Faith Munthali was not treated with the respect her office deserves. She was not given notice. She was not given time to walk in with her lawyers. She was taken abruptly, forcefully. That is not how you treat a lawmaker. That is not how you treat a mother, a leader, a servant of the people.
That is how you treat an enemy of the state.
And this is not the first time. Since before, during, and after the August 13, 2026 General Elections, we have watched this same pattern repeat. The rule of law is being bent. Due process is being ignored. And our Constitution is being tested.
I am asking you today, Zambia, to wake up.
To the Law Association of Zambia , to our women’s organizations, to civil society, to every mother and father watching this unfold: Speak up.
Demand the immediate release of Hon. Faith Munthali.
Because if it can happen to her today, it can happen to any one of us tomorrow.
Mr. Hakainde Hichilema , with all due respect, the elections are over. Our people are tired. They are tired of high prices. Tired of load shedding. Tired of fear.
They are not asking for more political arrests. They are not asking to be made stateless by cancelled passports.
They are asking for leadership. For healing. For food on the table. For unity.
Zambia is at a delicate moment. We need to come together, not tear each other apart.
Leadership right now must rise above division. It must restore peace, trust, and the dignity of every Zambian.
We will not stand aside. We will fight, peacefully and constitutionally, for the Zambia we all deserve.
So I repeat: Release Hon. Faith Munthali.
Let us return to professionalism. Let us return to restraint. Let us return to the rule of law.
May God bless you, and may God bless the Republic of Zambia.
Sydney Zyambo
Citizen. Father. Zambian.
