THE ECONOMIST OUTLINES REPORTED U.S. PEACE PLAN FOR UKRAINE

A proposed U.S. peace framework could reportedly require Ukraine to abandon its bid for NATO membership in exchange for security arrangements, an investment package and a path toward EU membership, according to The Economist.

The reported plan would also envisage a demilitarized zone in Donbas, while offering Russia potential sanctions relief, expanded business ties with the United States and broader political normalization.

One of the most controversial elements would reportedly involve the resumption of Russian gas supplies to Europe and the possible reopening of the Nord Stream pipeline.

The Economist notes that Washington cannot make such decisions on behalf of European governments and that restarting Nord Stream could conflict with existing EU legislation.

🇺🇦 Ukrainian officials are also reportedly concerned that Washington could pursue economic agreements favorable to Moscow before a final end to the war is reached.

⚠️ The reported proposals remain subject to negotiations, and Ukrainian officials have not yet received the full details of the plan.
