AUTHOR Mulenga Kapwepwe says there is still room for President Hakainde Hichilema to respect the wishes of the Lungu family and allow them to do what they want regarding former president Edgar Lungu’s funeral.
Mulenga, who is also the daughter of freedom fighter and veteran politician Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe, says President Hichilema should respect the Lungu family’s decisions the same way former president Kenneth Kaunda respected the wishes of the Kapwepwe family.
Speaking on KBN TV, Wednesday, Kapwepwe said it was not necessary for government to insist on being part of former president Lungu’s funeral because no law dictates such terms.

Mr. Kapwepwe was no ordinary individual whom you can dismiss with such contempt. His contributions to the liberation of Zambia was immense and in case you are not aware, he gave this country its name, Zambia.

Madame Mulenga Kapwepwe, please stop misleading people. Don’t compare Lungu to your Father who was never a head of state. He was the VP quite alright but not the President, had he been one even us the ordinary Zambians could have challenged your family wishes. You also stop portraying that HH is the one who is failing to grant Lungu’s family its wish to bury Lungu privately. The Constitution and not HH, demands that a former head of state should be given a befitting State funeral. I personally never liked ECL in my opinion he was a bad leader who messed up Zambia. But I respect the office he held & was a legitimately elected president whether I liked him or not. For this reason, I expect that ECL is afforded the burial fit for the office he held. HH therefore should act on the interest of people like me, HH being an elected officer in that highest office of the land representing the interest of majority of Zambians who voted for him.

Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe was never a Tribalist. He was a nationalist who contributed immensely to the liberation of Zambia. But sadly again History is being relived in Hon Chishimba Kambwili.. Labelling him a Tribalist when all he did was to State a fact which can even be scientifically verified.
The Tribalist I know was Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula. 1962, 1964, 1968, was all about Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula ‘s Tribalism.And a compromised so called Freedom Fighter. He was the weakest link in the Independence Struggle for the liberation of Zambia . Him was about Whiskey, Cigars and white women. And it’s all documented. That’s why he was abandoned and the young Turks formed UNIP which gave us Independence.
The Tribal Man, called Old Lion went to his region to continue with his Tribalism, Whiskey, Cigars and white women.

Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula a tribalist? Perish the thought. For your information, it was Nkumbula who allowed Simon Kapwepwe to live in one of his houses after leaving government as he had no house in Lusaka. At Kapwepwe’s funeral, Nkumbula described Kapwepwe as “a young man who wanted to rule his country but was frustrated”. In Kaunda’s book, ” Zambia Shall Be Free” no mention of tribalism is made. In the Musakanya Papers, there’s no tribalism mentioned about Nkumbula. Valentine Musakanya was Nkumbula’s pupil in Kitwe at primary school. Musakanya records being disciplined by Nkumbula and ended up appreciating the punishment as it helped him to reform. Nkumbula and Musakanya remained life-long friends after that.
But why this putrid hatred? Who choses which race, tribe or family one is born into? She is a beautiful zambian, mature woman, mother, and grandma. Rebuff her ideas not her physical person.
Before you write such nonsense, have sufficient evidence first. Bring concrete evidence. By the way, Zambia is full of immigrants who came from neighboring countries, who call themselves ZAMBIAN, and have every right to be. How was George Kunda buried? State funeral. He was vice President. Were there laws in our constitution when this womans father died that explicitly stated where a Head of State and former Head of State was to be buried?

Let the family do what they want whether they want to bury here or there and we move on so that we can proceed with all the cases they have. But one thing must be made very clear and that is as the deceased was a zambian the zambian government has every right to verify that the remains are indeed of the same person they claim to be by physical verification, that is viewing of the body as well as DNA verification. On that one there should be no compromise.
