TONSE PAMODZI ALLIANCE IN EASTERN PROVINCE WITHDRAWS SUPPORT FROM NYIMBA NORTH MP.
By Christopher Banda
The Tonse Pamodzi Alliance in Eastern Province has withdrawn its political support for Nyimba North Member of Parliament, Paul Lungu, with immediate effect.

The move follows Mr. Lungu’s acceptance of an appointment as Deputy Opposition Chief Whip from opposition National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity NRPUP President Ezra Tembo.
In a statement made available to Prime Television News, Alliance Provincial Chairman Maxson Nkhoma said the decision is contrary to the Alliance’s collective position and political direction.
Mr. Nkhoma described Lungu’s acceptance of the position as a serious breach of political loyalty and disregard for the guidance of President Brian Mundubile and the resolutions of the Alliance Central Committee.

He said recent parliamentary developments including the Speaker’s recognition of Ezra Tembo as Leader of the Opposition, Gaystev Chonde as Chief Whip, and Paul Lungu as Deputy Chief Whip have raised serious concerns about the political direction being taken by the Members of Parliament involved.

Consequently, Mr. Nkhoma said the provincial leadership has directed all its district, constituency and ward structures in Nyimba District and Nyimba North Constituency to cease political and organizational engagement with Lungu in his capacity as an Alliance representative, pending further guidance from relevant Alliance organs.

He has further reminded all Members of Parliament, Mayors, Council Chairpersons and Councilors serving under the Alliance banner that loyalty to the Alliance’s principles, collective decisions and recognized leadership is essential.
Mr. Nkhoma added that any alleged breach of these obligations will be addressed through the appropriate party structures and established disciplinary procedures.

He stressed that the Tonse Pamodzi Alliance remains committed to political discipline, unity and accountability, and will not hesitate to take appropriate organizational action in accordance with its constitution and procedures where disloyalty or misconduct is established.

  1. They can withdraw their support. The point is that one whose Party ticket did the MP stand? As long as its not PF. Then let him focus on working for the People that elected him.
