LUSAKA, Zambia Tonse Pamodzi Alliance Secretary General Ambassador Muhabi Lungu has called for a return to issue-based politics and peaceful political engagement following reports of an alleged attack on Tonse Alliance members in Raphael Chota Ward, Mandevu Constituency.

Ambassador Lungu was accompanied by Mandevu Constituency aspiring candidate and former Lusaka Mayor, Mr Daniel Chisenga; senior Alliance leaders Hon. Chalikosa and Ambassador George Chilumanda; Director of Elections Mr Bupe Banda; and other Alliance officials.

The delegation first congregated at Chanzanga St Peter’s Catholic Church in Mpulungu Ward, Mandevu, before proceeding to visit a person reportedly injured during Wednesday’s alleged attack on Tonse Alliance members.

During the visit, Ambassador Lungu assured the affected members of the Alliance’s support, while calling for firm engagement with the United Party for National Development (UPND) leadership to address the reported violence and promote peaceful political competition during the ongoing by-elections and beyond.

He stressed that Zambia’s political landscape must return to a culture where political parties compete through ideas, policies and development agendas rather than physical confrontations involving fists, pangas, knives and other dangerous weapons.

Ambassador Lungu reflected on the politics of previous generations, recalling that his father belonged to a different political party from his own, yet their political differences did not translate into personal enmity.

He said the country needed to revive a political culture in which opposing political views are respected and differences are resolved through dialogue rather than violence.
