STATEMENT ON THE LUMEZI NORTH PARLIAMENTARY BY-ELECTION

The Tonse Pamodzi Alliance wishes to reassure the people of Lumezi North that the Alliance will participate in the forthcoming Lumezi North Parliamentary By-Election, scheduled for next week.
The Alliance also wishes to distance itself from any statement reportedly made by NRPUP regarding the participation of the opposition in the by-election.
Such statements should not be attributed to the Tonse Pamodzi Alliance. The Alliance is currently concluding its candidate selection process. Our party structures and other key stakeholders have been engaged in extensive consultations aimed at identifying a suitably qualified candidate to represent the people of Lumezi North.
We are pleased to confirm that the Alliance received 22 applications from aspiring candidates. These applications are undergoing careful consideration as we seek to select a candidate who understands the aspirations of the people and is committed to serving them with integrity and dedication.
The Alliance has learned important lessons from previous engagements in which it adopted Members of Parliament who, after being elected, subsequently betrayed the trust placed in them by the people and the Alliance.
Our President, Brian Mundubile, has therefore given clear guidance that the candidate selected must be someone who will remain loyal to the people, faithful to the principles of the Alliance, and committed to the aspirations of the people of Lumezi North..
We wish to assure the people of Lumezi North that the Tonse Pamodzi Alliance remains committed to participating in the by-election and will communicate the name of its adopted candidate once the consultation and selection process has been concluded.
