TRUMP BANS SOUTH AFRICA, RAMAPHOSA RESPONDS: “WE DON’T BEG”

President Cyril Ramaphosa and Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana have made a historic decision: South Africa will temporarily withdraw from the G20 during Donald Trump’s 2026 presidency.

The message is clear Africa will not beg to sit at tables where it is disrespected.

Trump banned South Africa from G20 events after boycotting their historic 2025 summit, where South Africa became the first African nation to chair the G20. His administration rejected South Africa’s themes of “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” calling them anti-American.

Instead of compromising dignity for access, South Africa chose pride.

Minister Godongwana announced the decision at Davos, calling it a “temporary setback” but standing firm: without US accreditation, South African officials cannot access G20 venues. Rather than beg, South Africa stepped back.

South Africa has done the right thing. Africa’s voice will still be heard through the African Union, and South Africa will return when the UK takes over in 2027.

This is what sovereignty looks like. This is what self-respect looks like.

President Ramaphosa and his government have shown the world: Africa deserves respect, not charity. Africa deserves partnership, not patronage. Africa will not beg to be included where it is not wanted.

Donald Trump wanted to silence Africa. South Africa refused to be silenced—they walked out on their own terms.

Well done, South Africa. Africa is watching. The world is watching.

Respect is earned, not given. And it certainly cannot be begged for.
