Trump Expected to Send Congressional and Business Delegation to Zimbabwe Amid Push to Reset Bilateral Ties

HARARE — United States President Donald Trump is expected to dispatch a congressional and business delegation to Zimbabwe, in a move that signals potential efforts to reset relations between Washington and Harare, according to Zimbabwean officials.

The proposed visit follows high-level engagements involving Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York last month. Discussions centered on investment opportunities, critical minerals, trade, and improving overall bilateral relations.

Ambassador Chris Mutsvangwa confirmed the developments to The Sunday Mail, stating that engagements with American officials remain ongoing. He noted that Republican Congressman Marlin Stutzman of Indiana requested a meeting with Mnangagwa and traveled to New York specifically for the engagement.

“After the meeting with President Mnangagwa and reporting back to President Trump, he lost no time in broaching the idea of an impromptu congress-cum-business delegation to Zimbabwe,” Mutsvangwa said. The two sides also discussed the need for an exchange of high-level visits between the countries.

The developments come against a complex backdrop in U.S.-Zimbabwe relations.

While Washington has shifted toward greater emphasis on trade and investment partnerships rather than traditional aid, recent months have seen friction, including the end of certain U.S. health assistance programs after Zimbabwe declined proposed terms.

Zimbabwe has long sought relief from Western sanctions, and officials have pursued a policy of engagement with Western nations under Mnangagwa’s administration

No official confirmation or timeline for the delegation has been issued by the White House. Details on participants, the exact scope of the visit, or any potential outcomes remain pending further developments.
