BREAKING: Trump Puts Russia Sanctions on Hold, Just Weeks After Signing Them Into Law in Lindsey Graham’s Name
Donald Trump signed it. Now he’s shelving it.
Late Friday night, Trump signed an executive order putting a sweeping package of Russia sanctions on hold, according to the Associated Press. He told Congress it was in the “national interest.”
He didn’t say how.
This is the same law Trump personally signed last month. It was named after his close friend, the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, who died in July shortly after returning from Ukraine. Congress passed it with huge bipartisan majorities to honor him.
It was built to cut off the money fueling Putin’s war on Ukraine, going after Russian banks, Russian officials and the shadow fleet of tankers that keeps Russian oil moving.
Trump froze it two days before it was set to take effect.
And just one week ago, he announced a deal to buy millions of tons of diesel from Putin.
Read that again.
A law named after Trump’s own friend. Passed by both parties. Signed by Trump himself. Shelved on a Friday night, one week after he cut a fuel deal with Putin.
That’s not national interest. That’s caving to Putin.- really American
