President Donald Trump said he is “absolutely” considering trying to withdraw the United States from NATO and will criticize the alliance in his speech tonight.
“They haven’t been friends when we needed them,” Trump told Reuters in an interview. “We’ve never asked them for much. … It’s a one-way street.”
Trump has repeatedly criticized members of the military alliance for not supporting the US war in Iran and for their lack of assistance in opening the Strait of Hormuz.
The president said he will voice his disappointment with NATO in his address to the nation tonight and is “absolutely” considering a US withdrawal from the alliance.
Trump also said that while he cannot say exactly when the war in Iran will be over, “we’re going to be out pretty quickly.”
