Trump Threatens Houthis, Accuses Iran of Fueling Attacks on Saudi Arabia
U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a fresh warning to Yemen’s Houthi movement, accusing the group of resuming hostile activities after a period of relative calm and suggesting that Iran may be behind its latest actions.
“I thought the Houthis had learned their lesson from the heavy bombing campaign we carried out against them a year ago, which we stopped after they asked us to,” Trump said.
He added that the Houthis had remained quiet for a long time but had now re-emerged, accusing them of brutally attacking Saudi Arabia and deliberately attempting to drive up global oil prices.
Trump also pointed to Iran, describing it as a “failed country” without a navy or air force, and suggested that Tehran could be behind the Houthis’ latest actions.
The U.S. president further alleged that the Houthi attacks may be politically motivated, accusing the group of trying to push oil prices higher ahead of the upcoming U.S. midterm elections.
Trump warned that he would not forget the Houthis’ current actions and suggested that the United States could respond after the elections.
His remarks signal the possibility of renewed tensions involving Washington, Tehran and the Houthis, particularly as concerns grow over the security of Saudi Arabia and the potential impact of regional instability on global oil markets.
