Two Southern Province based musicians have appeared in the Choma Magistrate court on allegation of defaming President Edgar Lungu.

Augustine Kunda 26, of Mweebo village in Chief Chikanta’s chiefdom of Kalomo District and Gift Hachilima 20, of chief Macha’s Chiefdom in Choma are jointly charged with defamation of the president contrary to section 69 of the penal code chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.

Facts of the matter are that, the two jointly and whilst acting together, with intent to bring the name of president Lungu into hatred, ridicule or contempt, published defamatory words affecting the president by writing and producing a song.

The duo allegedly produced the said song between January 1 and March 30, 2021 in Choma District of Southern Province.

When the two appeared for plea before Senior Resident Magistrate Peter Mungala, they denied the charge and the matter was adjourned to June 28, 2021 for trial while police bonds were extended.
