U.S. CONFIRMS UNDERWATER DRONE DISAPPEARED IN STRAIT OF HORMUZ
The United States has officially acknowledged that an American unmanned underwater vehicle disappeared Tuesday in the Strait of Hormuz, amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran.
Iran claims the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) captured what it described as an advanced, intelligent U.S. underwater drone.
Washington, however, has sought to downplay the incident, saying the vehicle was an older model that malfunctioned and was lost during operations.
U.S. defense contractor Anduril reportedly said the possibility of losing the drone had already been anticipated as part of its operational planning.
The incident adds another layer to the escalating confrontation in and around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, where U.S. and Iranian forces continue to operate in close proximity.
