U.S. Intelligence Signals Iran Still Holds Significant Firepower Despite Weeks of Strikes
Recent intelligence assessments from Central Intelligence Agency indicate that Iran retains substantial military capabilities despite sustained airstrikes over recent weeks, challenging earlier claims of near-total degradation.
According to the assessment, roughly 50% of Iran’s mobile missile launchers remain operational, while thousands of attack and reconnaissance drones are still intact and ready for deployment. Coastal defense missile systems are also believed to be largely unaffected.
The findings contrast with earlier statements by Donald Trump, who suggested Iran’s military infrastructure had been nearly eliminated. The updated picture instead points to a more resilient and deeply entrenched force structure.
Analysts attribute this survivability to Iran’s extensive network of fortified underground facilities often referred to as “missile cities” designed to shield critical assets from conventional strikes. These hardened positions significantly complicate detection and targeting efforts.
Experts note that neutralizing the remaining capabilities could require far more than airpower alone, potentially involving ground operations to penetrate fortified sites.
Meanwhile, the persistence of coastal missile systems continues to pose a threat to commercial shipping, particularly in strategic waterways like the Strait of Hormuz.
