US officials fear China, Russia may be helping Iran target warships – WSJ
Iranian officials have said newer missiles include advanced guidance features designed to strike moving warships, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing analysts and US officials.
The Journal reported that some Iranian missiles may use electro-optical seekers, allowing them to maneuver toward moving targets using imagery.
US officials are also concerned that China or Russia could be helping Iran track the approximate locations of American warships before launch, according to the Journal.
The report cited Iran’s Qassem Bassir medium-range ballistic missile and the Khalij Fars as weapons equipped with seeker technology.
The United States currently has 19 warships supporting operations in the Middle East, according to a Navy official cited by the Journal.
