Vance: Iran Does Not Get to Rebuild Its Nuclear Program

Vice President JD Vance confirmed Monday that he and President Trump see real prospects for a negotiated settlement with Iran after direct talks. He stressed that any deal rests on one non-negotiable condition: Iran does not rebuild what the United States has already destroyed.

Vance told reporters he had just spoken with the President about an hour earlier. “The President and I both feel pretty good about the prospects for potentially coming to a negotiated settlement,” he said. “We’re going to keep on working at it.”

He noted the Iranians remain unpredictable. “As the President always says, he retains kinetic options, he retains non-kinetic options. But we’ve certainly made some progress. We’ll see if we can make some more.”

Asked whether the administration has set a deadline before the President resumes strikes, Vance was direct. “No, we haven’t set deadlines.” He laid out the American position clearly: “Having destroyed their nuclear program, we want to make sure they don’t rebuild it or try to rebuild it. That’s what matters most to the United States.”

Vance acknowledged Iranian priorities around sovereignty and economic recovery. “We do think that there is a pathway there, but it really does require a firm commitment and a verifiable commitment that they don’t rebuild that nuclear program.”
