VICE PRESIDENT MUTALE W.K. NALUMANGO VISITS COLLAPSED LUILI GOLD MINE IN NANGOMA

NANGOMA – The Vice President of Zambia, Mutale W.K. Nalumango, has visited Nangoma in the aftermath of the tragic collapse at the Luili Gold Mine, where 10 small-scale miners lost their lives.
During her visit, the Vice President extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and assured them of the government’s support during this difficult time.
Speaking to the affected families, Vice President Nalumango offered solace and comfort, acknowledging the deep pain and suffering they are going through.
She emphasized that the government stands in solidarity with them and will continue to provide necessary assistance. “Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this tragic period. We will do everything in our power to ensure that you are supported,” she said.
The Vice President highlighted the government’s commitment to improving safety conditions in the mining sector.
She stressed that ensuring miners work in accident-free environments is a top priority. “We are committed to ensuring that such accidents do not happen again, and we will work to create safe and secure conditions for all miners,” Nalumango said.
She further urged miners to adhere strictly to safety protocols before undertaking any mining activity.
“It is important that all small-scale miners observe safety guidelines to prevent accidents. No one should have to die because of avoidable risks,” she added.
Vice President Nalumango acknowledged the challenges faced by many Zambians who depend on mining for their livelihoods but warned that safety should never be compromised.
“We understand that many people work in the mines to make ends meet, but it is crucial to avoid dangerous working conditions that could lead to loss of life,” she said.
Additionally, the Vice President reiterated the government’s efforts to legalize small-scale mining.
She explained that formalizing these operations would not only improve safety standards but also help miners benefit more from their work.
“We are working tirelessly to legalize small-scale mining so that it becomes safer and more profitable for our people,” she noted.
