  1. The reign of Lupiya Banda was one where most economic parameters were acceptable, but why did he loose? Before Mwanawasa died, parliament wanted Mp’s, Ministers, Vice president and presidents Salaries increased, and Mwanawasa refused to adjust those Salaries upwards. When Bwezani came to power the first thing he did was to reverse Mwanawasa’s decision and increase the salaries of MP’s, Minister’s, President and vice president. There was an open outcry among Zambians which lasted for only a short time, but they did not forget, all they did was to wait for the elections. Bwezani had the exchange rate under control, there was infrastructure development, prices of essentials were generally affordable, and all economic indicators were super, but just one act of not listening to the Zambians sent him packing. When Zambians complain it is good, when they stop complaining it is a bad signal in Zambian politics. An example is under PF, Zambians stopped complaining because there was nothing, they could do against the rule of ECL, so they lay siege for the voting day. These are lessons that politicians should always try to understand. and once you say there is no opposition or I will hand over power to myself (which is one and the same thing), the next thing is that you will lament in Zambian politics, so it is only proper that people’s complaints are headed to, because Zambians know the power of the vote. To UPND my advice is listen to what the people are complaining about and try as much as possible to act in that direction, like I said when they complain it is good, but when they stop complaining, their though goes ahead of everyone, it seats by the ballot box in 2026, and they are capable of voting for anyone just to drive the point home. of course, I would not want a situation where PF comes back but I only have one vote.
