    NAWA RELEASED ON POLICE BOND

…as Nalumango calls for peaceful August 12th general elections

Special assistant for Special Duties to President Hakainde Hichilema, Mubita Nawa has been released on police bond.

Mr Nawa has spent 14 days in detention at Kabwata Police Station on a charge of defamation of the President (Lungu).

In an interview shortly after his release from police custody, Mr Nawa, who described his long detention as “excruciating”, stated that he got relief from the fact that most inmates at Kabwata Police indicated that they had resolved to vote UPND into power in the forthcoming general elections.

Meanwhile, UPND Vice President, Mutale Nalumango has called for an end to political violence.

In interview shortly after securing the release of Mr Nawa, Ms Nalumango stated that time for violent elections was long gone.

Ms Nalumango, who is also President Hichilema’s running mate ahead of the elections, clarified that the long, unlawful detention of Mr Nawa was reminiscent of a rotten political system in which those in power used the Police to fix political opponents.

She has since appealed to all political parties in the country to restrain their cadres from indulging in politics of violence, adding that engaging in political violence had the potential to generate into full fledged civil unrest.
