McCARTHY: ‘WE CAN’T WORK AS ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS’
Kenya head coach Benni McCarthy says he and some members of his technical team do not have work permits, preventing them from staying in the country between international camps.
The former South Africa international says the situation also limits his ability to attend domestic matches and scout players who could be called up to the national team.
McCarthy says he leaves Kenya as soon as each camp ends because he cannot remain in the country without the necessary documentation.
“We can’t work as illegal immigrants. That’s why I come, do my job, then leave when the camp is finished,” McCarthy said.
The situation means McCarthy has limited opportunities to watch Kenya’s home-based players in domestic action as he prepares the Harambee Stars for upcoming assignments.
