We shall consult Zambians in 2026 over presidential term extension – Mposha

MIKE Mposha, the Green Economy and Environment Minister has disclosed that government shall in 2026 undertake to consult Zambians on the possibility to elongate the presidential term to seven years from the current five year limit.

And Mr Mposha has said he is not among the corrupt Cabinet Ministers that are being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Corruption (ACC).

Mr Mposha said the government would in 2026 consult the people of Zambia on extending the presidential term depending on their performance.

And Mr. Mposha says he is not a corrupt man and that he has never been aware of any of the Cabinet Ministers being investigated for corruption claiming that most of the Ministers were in fact genuine about serving Zambians.- Daily nation

  1. There is nothing to consult. The presidential term is FIVE years. This was extensively discussed during previous constitutional reviews. Don’t waste our time. Five years is enough for one to make a positive impact.

We might even reduce it to four years if you decide to waste our time.

  2. Mposha, shut your beak, power has entered you thick heads. Presidential term in Zambia should be reduced to four years period. Don’t bring in a useless debate instead of delivering on your fake promises and doing the opposite. Muleumfwako nensoni.

  3. Mr.President, Ba Hichilema. When your Ministers start to make these wa muyayaya statements they send mixed messages on a position you made clear in your press statement through your Press and Media Advisor.
These mixed messages will affect your tenure, let alone you attempts and efforts to better the lives of Zambians.
Mr. Mposha if you have failed at your portifolio keep quiet or resign. Reckless statements like this are counter productive. Now you embarass the Head of State in such statements.

  4. The Head of State and the Vice President have already adequately addressed this issue. Is this an attempted to dispute their desires to up hold the law.

This ploy will make the ruling party unpopular if recklessly pursued. How will this be different from the infamous bill ten.

Forcus on service delivery and progressive development programs as promised.

voters will sensibly assess the options wisely. No amount of political maneuvers can manipulate the masses from relect a performing government.

Hope this is article is fake news. If not this is disappointing.

  5. The tribalist conman at work.

He wants a longer term yet he is more useless than cow dung. Pure rubbish.

    Vote wisely in 2026.

  6. These Tongas, useless, who do they want to rule for 7 years? You have failed in everything, socially , economically, tribally, nepotism, corruption , stealing, plundering, everything! The only thing Hichilema and his tribesmen have achieved is being hated by Zambians! Ala Zambians don’t want Hichilema and his tribesmen! So why even waste time talking about increasing presidential term! You will just bring war in the country! You should be very careful way you handle Zambians. Zambians are very annoyed with Hichilema! Infact , because of failures like Hichilema, presidential term should be reduced to 4 years, to shorten period of stealing!

  7. Where is Hon Mposha getting the courage to contradict what the President and Vice President said? This is disjointed communication and should not be allowed. Mposha, 5 years is too long a period to deliver. Look at countries with big economies and populations e.g. USA. My advice is that the President appointed you as cabinet minister to help him serve Zambian people. In your case to among other things mitigate the impact of climate change especially on poor people not to extend the tenure of office. I hope you will not be submitting this kind of retrogressive ideas in the cabinet meetings
