WE’RE READY TO POLICE 2026 POLLS
INSPECTOR General of Police, Mr. Graphel Musamba, has stated that the Zambia Police Service is fully prepared and committed to ensuring that the 2026 general election is conducted in a peaceful, secure, and orderly manner, in accordance with the rule of law.
Speaking during the 2026 first quarter media briefing this morning at the National Command Centre in Lusaka, Mr. Musamba revealed that the Service has developed comprehensive security and electoral plans aimed at preventing violence, enhancing stakeholder collaboration, and maintaining law and order throughout the electoral period.
He, however, expressed concern over the rising cases of mob justice, warning that such acts undermine the rule of law and threaten national stability, especially as the country approaches the elections.
He urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and allow due process to prevail.
Mr. Musamba emphasized that Police will operate in a professional and impartial manner, in line with democratic standards, before, during, and after the elections.
He further reiterated the directive issued by the Republican President and Commander-in-chief of the Defence Force, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema which underscores the necessity of conducting thorough and comprehensive investigations prior to the detention of any suspects, while upholding and safeguarding fundamental human rights.
He assured the nation that the Police Service remains committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all citizens to freely participate in the democratic process.
