WOMAN AND THREE MINORS EVICTED AT MIDNIGHT AFTER DNA PATERNITY EXCLUSION: MEDICAL EXPERTS WARN OF PSYCHOLOGICAL AND PEDIATRIC RISKS

A domestic incident involving a case of non-paternity event (NPE) has sparked debate on the ethics of Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) paternity testing, after a woman and her three children were allegedly ejected from their matrimonial home in the middle of the night following a genetic exclusion report.

According to accounts, the husband had commissioned a private Short Tandem Repeat (STR) DNA profiling test, which is regarded as the gold standard in forensic genetics for paternity determination. The laboratory result reportedly showed 0% probability of paternity and 100% exclusion across multiple autosomal loci, confirming that the man was not the biological father of the three children. The report cited allelic mismatch at more than three genetic markers, which in medical jurisprudence constitutes definitive exclusion of biological paternity, as opposed to a 99.99% inclusion when paternity is confirmed.

Upon receipt of the molecular diagnosis, the husband is alleged to have carried out a nocturnal eviction, throwing the woman and minors out of the house, an act which was captured in a low-light image now circulating.

Medically, the incident raises multiple concerns. Pediatricians warn of acute nocturnal exposure, risk of hypothermia, upper respiratory tract infection and psychological trauma to the minors, while psychiatrists note the risk of Acute Stress Disorder (ASD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and adjustment disorder in both the woman and children following sudden homelessness and family disruption. For the man, urologists and psychologists note that discovery of non-paternity can trigger acute emotional dysregulation, reactive depression and anxiety disorder.

Public health commentators are divided. Some argue that routine DNA screening should be discouraged, citing social paternity over genetic paternity and warning that genetic testing without pre-test and post-test genetic counselling destabilizes family units. They argue that forefathers did not rely on deoxyribonucleic acid analysis and preserved family cohesion through presumptive paternity.

Others counter that paternity testing is a fundamental right to genetic truth, with implications for hereditary medical history, blood group incompatibility, autosomal recessive conditions and inheritance. They argue that paternity fraud constitutes reproductive deception with significant psychosocial and economic morbidity to the non-biological father.

Legal and medical experts advise that where STR analysis confirms paternity exclusion, parties should seek clinical psychological counselling, medico-legal advice and social welfare intervention, rather than resort to summary extrajudicial eviction, which may constitute Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and child neglect under the Children’s Act.

The Ministry of Health emphasizes that DNA collection via buccal swab must be followed by confidential disclosure in a controlled clinical environment with a genetic counsellor present to mitigate adverse psychosocial sequelae.

  1. Those against the DNA test and reaction are just sick up stairs, a woman that bears a child with another man but behaves as if nothing was wrong does not deserve any better treatment other than been chased in the night. Its painful to feed, education and hug and kiss someone else’s sperms. Women why get into marriage yet keep extra marital affairs.
