ZAMBIA DEPORTS 193 FOREIGNERS AS TWO ZAMBIAN WOMEN RETURN FROM INDIA OVER ALLEGED SEXUAL EXPLOITATION

The Department of Immigration has removed 193 foreign nationals from Zambia in a mass operation conducted in Lusaka, while two Zambian women have been repatriated from India following allegations of labour and sexual exploitation.

According to Immigration Chief Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka, the operation conducted on Thursday, October 22, 2026, saw the removal of 164 Burundians, 22 Tanzanians, four Rwandans and three Ugandans.

Some of the foreign nationals had been convicted of immigration offences and paid court-imposed fines, while others were removed administratively in accordance with immigration procedures.

Meanwhile, two Zambian women who travelled to India in July this year in search of employment have returned home after allegedly being subjected to working conditions different from those initially promised.

The women reportedly sought refuge at the Zambian Embassy in India after encountering alleged labour and sexual exploitation.

They were repatriated to Zambia on October 15, 2026, and handed over to officers from the Department of Social Welfare and the Anti-Human Trafficking Department for further assistance.

In another development, a Zambian man who reportedly worked as a technician at Amazon in Dubai was deported from the United Arab Emirates after overstaying his authorised visit period.

The man had travelled to Dubai on March 29, 2026, but remained in the country beyond the period permitted under his immigration status.

The Immigration Department has since warned Zambians seeking employment abroad to be cautious of recruitment agents and suspicious job offers.

Nshinka urged prospective migrant workers to verify employment contracts, the legitimacy of employers and immigration requirements before travelling.

He further advised Zambians to obtain the necessary clearance from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to avoid falling victim to exploitation and human trafficking.
