Police in Kazungula District have launched investigations into the sudden and unnatural death of a 27-year-old woman who was found dead in Botswana under unclear circumstances.
Southern Province Commanding Officer, Moono Namalongo, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on April 6, 2026, stating that the matter was reported at Kazungula Police Station around 12:03 hours.
The deceased has been identified as Nasilele Mukubi, a resident of Katoya Village in Chief Sekute’s area in Kazungula District. She is believed to have died between the night of April 5 and the early hours of April 6, 2026, in New Stance, Kazungula.
The case was reported by her uncle, Brighton Mwampole, 63, who informed authorities that his niece had passed away at her boyfriend’s residence following a short illness.
According to police reports, Mukubi had travelled to Botswana on April 3, 2026, to visit her boyfriend. Upon arrival, she reportedly complained of a fever. On the night of April 5, the couple went to bed around 20:00 hours, but she was later discovered unresponsive around 05:00 hours the following morning.
The matter was first attended to by Botswana Police, who visited the scene, conducted an inspection, and documented the incident. Preliminary findings suggest that there was no foul play.
The body was later transported to Kasane Hospital, where a medical doctor certified the death. It is currently being kept in the mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination and eventual repatriation to Zambia.
Meanwhile, Zambian police officers from Kazungula also visited the scene and inspected the body, confirming that no visible injuries were found.
Despite early indications pointing to no foul play, authorities have emphasized that investigations remain ongoing to establish the exact cause of death.
