ZAMBIANS WANT OPPOSITION TO RALLY BEHIND ONE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE – UKA

UNITED Kwacha Alliance Chairperson Sakwiba Sikota says opposition leaders have heard the people’s call to unite and field one presidential candidate in the 2026 general election.

Sikota has warned that those who ignore this call risk being rejected by voters. His remarks follow recent comments by Zambia We Want spokesperson Muhabi Lungu, who argued that the opposition stands a better chance of defeating President Hakainde Hichilema if they unite behind a single candidate.

Speaking in an interview, Sunday, Sikota emphasised that while unity is not the only strategy for winning the 2026 election, it is by far the most effective. “It’s not the only way but it is the best way to go about it and it’s the surest way.

  1. Which Zambians? Isn’t it the same ones who never wanted president HH to become president? And even if that is true, then what next?

  2. Rally behind a programme on what you will do to improve education. Free education impossible, according to PF? No meal allowances for public university students? How to improve agriculture, not reduce mealie meal prices, from the farm, not from the office? Healthy care, two streams, one in SA and one in Zambia? how will you improve mining and mining revenues. Not one candidate, but a programme for me. Not just we must remove him from power, so that you do what? You steal?

  3. He is a lawyer but still no brain and wisdom at his age. These are the people we should retire by force.Very useless chaps. They saw the economy going down under Lungu & did nothing cause they were eating from those tenders they got in the pretext of improving our facilities.

  4. Which Zambians naimwe? Can you please spare us and stop irritating us. We don’t need any candidate from Tonse or anywhere, we already have Bally until 2031.

  5. That certainly won’t be sikota since almost everybody has abandoned his uka to go and join tonse. They have only remained 3 non entities that is Sikota, Saboi and Silavwe. The asses (S).

  6. Rallying behind one candidate is a sure way to take out the UPND, but going by Zambians politics, that possibility is next to Zero because of egos amount those that want to lead and their followers, evidently in one candidate is picked, he will naturally want to move into government with the majority of his own political party followers and that disadvantages other opposition political party structures. So what is the other alternative that is workable?.The other workable scenario is to have at least three strong opposition leaders in the race with a view to split the vote and force a rerun, when a rerun is achieved all opposition political parties will have no choice but to support the leading opposition leader which can now dislodge the UPND from power. This scenario is more workable than the initial one
