ZELENSKYY BRIEFED AFTER NORDIC LEADERS’ CALL WITH PUTIN

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has spoken with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre following their telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin. He thanked both leaders for a detailed briefing and their support for coordinated peace efforts.

According to Zelenskyy, Stubb and Støre told Putin that Russia must take concrete steps to de-escalate attacks on Ukraine’s energy facilities and infrastructure. The follow-up continued discussions held in Oslo involving American, European and NATO representatives.

Zelenskyy also discussed preparations for a planned November meeting between Ukrainian, American and Russian teams. This is a proposed meeting at the negotiating-team level, rather than an announced summit between the three presidents.

The briefing matters because coordination must continue after contact with Moscow. Ukraine was consulted beforehand and has now received an account of the conversation, helping partners compare positions and maintain a shared approach.

For Finland and Norway, both of which border Russia, reliable security arrangements carry direct importance. Zelenskyy said they also explored further European cooperation supporting diplomacy, Ukraine’s defence and collective security

The next test is whether these discussions produce action. Calls for de-escalation need to become fewer attacks, protection for civilian infrastructure and commitments Russia can be held to.

“Peace must be achieved, de-escalation is needed, and Russia’s prolongation of the war must end,” Zelenskyy said.
