ZIMBABWE POLITICIAN DIES, LEAVES BEHIND 13 WIVES AND 42 CHILDREN.

Zimbabwean politician and former Bikita West legislator Dr Munyaradzi Kereke has died at the Avenues Clinic in Harare, leaving behind a large family comprising 13 wives and 42 children.

Kereke died in the early hours of tuesday at the Harare medical facility, with his family confirming his death in a brief statement.

“It is with sadness that we announce the passing on of Dr Munyaradzi Kereke this morning at The Avenues Clinic. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course,” the family said.

The cause of death has not been officially disclosed.

However, reports circulating following his death have linked it to a stroke, although the family has not publicly confirmed those reports.

Kereke leaves behind a controversial political and business legacy spanning Zimbabwe’s central banking sector, politics and the courts.

He rose to prominence as a senior strategic adviser to former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor Dr Gideon Gono before entering politics.

In 2013, Kereke won the Bikita West parliamentary seat on a ZANU-PF ticket during Zimbabwe’s harmonised elections.

His political career was later overshadowed by a criminal conviction. Kereke was convicted of rape and sentenced to an effective 10 years in prison.

The conviction and sentence were subsequently upheld by Zimbabwe’s Supreme Court following a lengthy legal battle involving a private prosecution.

Kereke completed his custodial sentence in January 2026.

His death marks the end of a highly controversial career that saw him occupy influential positions in Zimbabwe’s political, financial and business circles.
