Zumani proposes 46 Government jobs for NRPUP in unity plan
POLITICAL scientist and NRPUP chief presidential Advisor Zumani Zimba has proposed that NRPUP be given 46 Government positions as part of a proposed unity government with the ruling UPND.
Dr Zimba said the proposal is meant to help bring political reconciliation, peace and unity following the 2026 general elections.
Under his proposed arrangement, NRPUP would receive four Cabinet positions, four diplomatic posts, four Permanent Secretary positions, four parastatal CEO positions and 30 District Commissioner positions.
Dr Zimba said the proposal is based on what he describes as a “give-and-take” approach, where both UPND and NRPUP make compromises in the interest of national unity.
“A ‘give and take approach’ is now more appropriate, desirable and necessary that is premised on mutual understanding and compromise,” Dr Zimba said.
He suggested that the proposed deal should also include the release of NRPUP members currently in detention and the dropping of political charges against NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and his running mate Makebi Zulu.
Recently, Mundubile and Zulu were linked to a plan for an unconstitutional take-over of the government and an armed insurrection.
Police summoned Mundubile for questioning regarding an alleged plot threatening national security.
This comes after security forces raided his property, following the August 13, Polls, where authorities claim to have found high-grade military weapons and arrested 11 of his associates on state security charges.
Mundubile rejected the “militia” claims or having had sophisticated weapons and announced plans to petition the Presidential results where he lost with close to a million votes.
Dr Zimba called for a political ceasefire between the two camps, urging their leaders, supporters and political bloggers to stop insults, attacks, misinformation and other activities that could worsen political tensions.
He said the two sides should also work together to improve the country’s electoral system and strengthen public confidence in the Electoral Commission of Zambia ahead of future elections.
According to Dr Zimba, NRPUP would also need to accept the election results as declared by the ECZ as part of the proposed agreement, while the UPND would work with the opposition alliance in running the country.
He said Zambia should now move away from political confrontation and focus on healing, peace and development.
Dr Zimba stated that the proposed unity government would give political leaders an opportunity to put their differences aside and work together for the benefit of ordinary Zambians.
Meanwhile, after NRPUP was used as a Special Purpose vehicle by the Tonse Alliance founded by Dr Zimba, to field a presidential candidate, the party announced yesterday that it had withdrawn from the partnership.
According to the party’s secretary general Nonde Mubanga, the decision was made after careful consideration and extensive consultations.
“A decision has been made to withdraw from the current Tone Alliance arrangements. This decision has not been taken lightly,” he stated.
Mubanga added that the withdrawal should not be interpreted as hostility or opposition towards any individual or organisation within the alliance but a strategic decision intended to align the party with its vision and principles.
He is smoking some strange substance. It will take him time to awaken to the fact that the jobs he is wishing for can only come five years from now. He is demanding jobs from election winners by over 1.1m votes, which jobs he did not offer election losers by less than 110,000 votes in 2016. Some PhDs are strange, anyway there are so many in Zambia, difficult to know which ones are fake news.

The elections were won by HH and the UPND well above the required minimum of 50%+1. If you are not happy with the result, the correct thing is to petition the Constitutional Court not calling for a government of national unity or sharing government posts. Let those who won the election govern. They were given that mandate by the people. That is the nature of our democracy.
Iam sure those who voted for Mr. Mundubile and NRPUP feel betrayed by the turn of events, especially the way Mr. Mundubile has been abandoned. It is no rocket science that the PF base gravitated to Mr. Mundubile and that is why NRPUP performed so well.
Please, don’t bring confusion in our governance system.
Should the upnd start negotiating for them to govern as if they didn’t win genuinely. Unless they didn’t win then they can be pinned like that
