ECZ PROMISES TO ENGANGE REGISTRAR OF SOCIETIES OVER OFFICE BEARERS UPDATES

The Electoral Commission of Zambia has concluded its meeting with Political parties with the promise that the Commission will engage the Registrar of Societies over office Bearers updates.

The Commission has also confirmed the development in statement below:

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has concluded its consultative meeting with political parties regarding preparations for the nominations for the 2026 General Election.

The meeting also provided key updates and guidance on the nomination process. Political parties were represented by their President, Secretary General (or equivalent), Election Chairperson, and Campaign Manager.

The meeting resolved that:

  • The Commission will engage the Registrar of Societies regarding concerns on the registration of political parties highlighted in the meeting, such as the failure to update office bearers.
  • The Commission will engage the Office of the Attorney General on the requirement that anyone contesting the presidential election must be an ordinary resident in Zambia (including clarification on the period of residency required).
  • Verification of the Grade 12 certificate is conducted by the Examinations Council of Zambia, either through their online platform or by physical verification.
  • For the pre‑processing of the 100 supporters, political parties and independent candidates must write to the Commission expressing interest for their supporters to be processed in the provinces. Further, political parties and independent candidates wishing to have their supporters pre‑processed must pay the nomination fees for presidential candidates by 29th April 2026
