OPPOSITION’S SHAMEFUL CONDUCT AT ECZ EVENT: A DISGRACE TO ZAMBIA

As the President of the People’s Convention Independence Party (PCIP), we are compelled to express our deepest disappointment and outrage at the deplorable behavior of opposition party leaders at the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) event yesterday at Mulungushi Conference Centre. The conduct of these individuals was an affront to the dignity of our nation and a slap in the face to the Zambian people. It’s evident that the opposition has devolved into a pre-school, where children act without regard for order or decorum.

President Hakainde Hichilema has set a high standard, and it’s clear that the opposition is struggling to cope. But instead of rising to the challenge, they’ve chosen to descend into chaos and embarrassment. We question whether the Register of Societies is doing enough to ensure that political parties uphold high standards. Or is it that the freedom of speech is being exercised without regard for the law?

The Zambian people are shocked and dismayed by the behavior of these politicians. They’re taking our citizens for granted, mocking their misery, and laughing at their unemployment. They’re more interested in campaign handouts than genuine change.

The implications of this behavior are far-reaching, with potential erosion of public trust in opposition parties and politicians, perpetuation of a culture of entitlement and disrespect, and potential breach of electoral laws and codes of conduct.

To the opposition leaders, we say: respect the people, respect the nation. Stop the theatrics and start working towards a better Zambia. To the ECZ, I urge: uphold the highest standards and ensure that political parties adhere to them. We, the People’s Convention Independence Party, will continue to work towards a Zambia that is worthy of our highest aspirations.
