Namibians demand the release of State House intruder
Namibians are calling for the release of Giano Seibeb, the 29-year-old man who allegedly trespassed at State House.
Seibeb has a known history of schizophrenia. His family says he escaped from a mental health ward before the incident and was not in his right mind. They have also demanded the release of CCTV footage to prove how he managed to bypass security.
While the court has ordered a psychiatric evaluation to determine whether Seibeb is fit to stand trial, many Namibians are questioning why a mentally ill person is being treated as a criminal rather than a patient.
The breach led to the dismissal of the Inspector General of the Namibian Police, but public focus remains on Seibeb’s condition and the lack of transparency from authorities.
Seibeb’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 22, 2026.
The question many are asking: Should a sick man be behind bars while those who failed to protect State House walk free ?
