NUMBER OF RALLIES WILL NOT DECIDE ZAMBIA’S ELECTION – ZULU
Former Lumezi Member of Parliament Munir Zulu has claimed that the number of campaign rallies held by a political party will not determine the outcome of Zambia’s forthcoming general election, arguing that the electorate’s will would ultimately prevail
Drawing comparisons with neighbouring Malawi, Zulu said the then ruling party under President Lazarus Chakwera held significantly more campaign rallies than opposition parties, but still lost power.
“In Malawi the then ruling party of President Chakwera had a hundred rallies more than the opposition political parties but the will of the people prevailed!,” he said.
Zulu said a similar situation could unfold in Zambia, where he alleged the ruling UPND was boasting about the number of campaign rallies it had conducted.
“The ruling party in Zambia is boasting of having so many rallies but the will of the Zambian people shall always prevail!”
He further said he had recently discussed the country’s political landscape with associates, one of whom asked what indicators suggested that the ruling party could lose the election.
Zulu responded by citing the political history of a former Member of Parliament identified only as Sunday, claiming that his adoption by different political parties had coincided with their electoral defeats.
“Now he has been adopted by the ruling UPND so history is not short of memories!”
