Bemba Royal Establishment Maintains Political Neutrality

By Hannock Kasama

The Bemba Royal Establishment has directed its traditional leaders to remain non-partisan as the country prepares for the forthcoming elections.

The Establishment says the guidance is in line with its policy of maintaining the integrity and institutions of the Bemba Kingdom.

It says subjects of the Kingdom are free to exercise their democratic rights by participating in the elections.

The Establishment has also welcomed all political parties taking part in the elections to campaign in the Bemba Kingdom.

The resolutions were adopted during an Extra-Ordinary Meeting of the Bemba Royal Establishment, locally known as “ICILYE CE LAMFYA”, held on July 7, 2026 at Paramount Chief CHITIMUKULU’s Palace in Mungwi District, Northern Province.

The resolutions are contained in a statement released to ZNBC News in Lusaka today by Paramount Chief CHITIMUKULU’s Secretary RICHARD MUKUKA.

  1. This is what a king does. Mukuni and his mates in Southern and North Western Province can never be kings. They remain as Head men just as the British found them. They have failed to live up to the elevated status of chief. You never hear Chitimukulu, Litunga, Undi or Mpezeni endorsing a political candidate. They advise but remain neutral and are part of the government of the day. That is what a king does.
