Vote wisely, we need proper leadership, cries Ba NAPSA on seeing state of school infrastructure

CHIBOMBO Town Council Chairperson aspirant Chilufya Kachingwe, popularly known as Ba NAPSA, has expressed disappointment at the state of school infrastructure in Ipongo Ward of Keembe West, saying pupils deserve a better learning environment.

Kachingwe who is an independent candidate wondered how Zambian children could still be learning in what he described as deplorable infrastructure 61 years after Independence, especially when the Constituency Development Fund—CDF is said to have K40 million available for development projects.

Speaking during a visit to a school in the Nkala area of Ipongo Ward, which caters for pupils from Grade One to Grade Seven, Kachingwe questioned why learners were still studying in dilapidated classrooms despite the availability of CDF and the government’s free education policy.

“Yet we have CDF in government coffers and we have people who have been assigned to ensure school-going children learn in a conducive environment under free education,” he said.

“Look at this. This is a classroom and you call this a school? In 2022, they even brought desks into a classroom that looks like this, yet people are claiming to have worked,” Kachingwe remarks.

Kachingwe said that if elected as Council Chairperson, he would work closely with the area Member of Parliament to improve education infrastructure and ensure children learn in dignified conditions.

“Sixty-one years after Independence, our children are still learning in infrastructure like this. We need proper leadership. The people you voted for were entrusted with leading and helping you, but look at the state of this school. That is why we say, vote with wisdom, vote wisely,” he said.
