Breaking! Vice-Presiden Nalumango survives helicopter crash
A plane carrying Mutale Nalumango crashed shortly after take-off in Nakonde and the Republican Vice President survived the accident, according to multiple sources.
Preliminary information indicates the aircraft went down a few metres from the ground moments after departing.
The government is yet to issue a statement on the matter but multiple sources have confirmed that there were about eight people on board. The passenger manifest has not yet been released.
The condition of the Vice President and the other passengers remains unknown. Vice President Nalumango arrived in Nakonde this morning where she met various stakeholders before addressing a public rally at a local school.
At the time of the crash, she was scheduled to travel to Isoka District for another rally as part of her ongoing campaign tour of Muchinga Province, which began on Sunday.
According to Chete FM, security has been tightened around the crash site, and members of the media have not been allowed to get close.
