NO ONE WILL BE ARRESTED FOR CRITICIZING ME OR MY GOVERNMENT – MUNDUBILE

Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has pledged to protect Zambians’ constitutional rights, saying citizens will be free to criticise his government without fear of punishment if he is elected President.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Luapula Province, Mr. Mundubile said his administration would restore what he described as citizens’ freedoms and ensure that constitutional rights are respected.

“We will give you back your rights. You will be able to criticise us as you should because those rights are guaranteed by the Republican Constitution,” he told supporters.

Mr. Mundubile said his government would welcome public criticism if it failed to deliver on its promises.

“We pledge today that if we fail you after the elections, you have the right to criticise us and you will not be punished. It’s your right. How else will we know that we are not delivering to you?” he said.

He urged voters to support the Brian Mundubile–Makebi Zulu ticket in the 13 August General Election, saying his administration would uphold constitutional freedoms, promote accountability, and strengthen democratic governance.

  2. Even under the current government, we are free to criticise. However, if you are equating insulting to criticism like “Why me” does, then you don’t deserve to lead the country. Anyone who insults leaders as a former of “criticism” or freedom of expression belongs in jail. There has to be mutual respect in the way we conduct our politics.

Telling lies and soiling other people’s reputations must be punished to protect innocent individuals. For example, one former MP told a lie that two ministers had corruptly received USD250,000 each into their accounts and he had proof to back his claim. When he was taken to court, he pleaded parliamentary immunity. Such should never be allowed in a society that believes in justice. This is not criticism. It is character assassination.

Under Mr. Mundubile’s PF, insulting was generously rewarded and I remember Mr. Lubinda, the former acting PF president describing Why me as a freedom fighter. When elderly men approve of such appalling behaviour, then you know something has gone terribly wrong.
