Police promise update on Mundubile and Makebi Zulu questioning
The Zambia Police Service says it will update the public once it concludes questioning of National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) losing presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and his running mate, Makebi Zulu.
Lusaka, 27 August – Police public relations officer Godfrey Chilabi said the two lawyers were currently being interviewed in connection with an ongoing investigation.
“There are interviews currently going on, the two are being represented by their lawyers. Once we are done with interviews, definitely an update will be given to the public,” Mr Chilabi said.
The questioning follows a recent police operation in Lusaka’s Kabulonga area, where 11 people were charged in connection with an alleged plot to stage an insurrection.
Mr Mundubile was reportedly among those found at the scene during the police raid, prompting further scrutiny as investigators continued to establish the circumstances surrounding the gathering.
Police have not yet disclosed the specific details of the allegations being investigated against Mr Mundubile and Mr Zulu, who are both lawyers.
Mr Chilabi said members of the public should await an official update from the police once the interviews are concluded.
