🇿🇲 CAMPAIGN WATCH | Mundubile asks EU to step up election monitoring, cites possible vote fraud
Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance presidential candidate Brian Mundubile on Thursday urged the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) to deploy more observers across Zambia, saying wider monitoring would strengthen confidence in next month’s general election.
Mundubile led a delegation of senior Tonse Alliance officials in presenting what the opposition described as a 10-point dossier detailing concerns over the electoral environment.
Among the issues raised were the application of electoral laws, access to state media, the conduct of public institutions, campaign scheduling, political violence and the independence of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).
“We appeal to the European Union to deploy more election observers throughout Zambia, especially in politically sensitive areas, to strengthen transparency, build public confidence and contribute to the credibility of the 2026 General Elections,” Mundubile said.
The European Union mission said it would independently assess the issues raised as part of its election observation mandate, noting that it operates separately from the EU Delegation accredited to Zambia
The meeting comes a day after Mundubile and his running mate, Makebi Zulu, questioned whether the August 13 elections would be free and fair, despite the opposition leader later telling ZNBC that campaigns across the seven provinces visited by the alliance had been peaceful and largely free of major incidents.
Thursday also marked a noticeable shift in the Tonse Alliance’s campaign messaging.
Unlike recent days, which featured a series of wild promises on education, agriculture, employment and the civil service, the opposition has made no major new campaign promises, instead focusing almost entirely on electoral governance and the conditions under which the polls will be conducted.
This change in emphasis reflects a campaign increasingly seeking to shape the conversation around the electoral process as polling day draws nearer.

The European Union mission should go a step further and fund Tonse alliance to ensure they effectively guard the election vote.
When (not if) they lose, we don’t want them crying “rigging”.
So help them set a robust vote monitoring system in case they donot have the capacity.
Mundubile is just afraid of his own shadow. He is no match at all for HH. 13th August is not far – only 28 days away.
