🟧 ONE OF UKRAINE’S MOST RESPECTED GENERALS SPEAKS OUT

General Mykhailo Drapatyi, Commander of Ukraine’s Joint Forces and one of the country’s most respected battlefield commanders, has publicly defended the reforms introduced under former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov

Drapatyi is no ordinary officer. He has fought in Ukraine’s defense since 2014, helped lead the liberation of Mariupol, commanded brigades on some of the war’s toughest fronts, and later rose to become Commander of the Ground Forces before taking command of Ukraine’s Joint Forces. His reputation has been built on years of frontline leadership rather than politics.

In a lengthy statement following Fedorov’s departure, Drapatyi praised the former defense minister’s team for listening to commanders, accelerating decision-making, and pushing long-overdue reforms that directly benefited soldiers on the battlefield.

He pointed to initiatives such as the “Drone Line” project as examples of how rapid innovation can quickly change the situation at the front.

Perhaps his strongest criticism was directed not at any individual, but at the military system itself.

“When the right decision has to be implemented against the system, rather than because of it, it means that the system itself needs to change.”

Drapatyi argued that commanders have a duty to speak honestly about problems, warning that silence only allows mistakes to grow until they cost lives.

His statement adds another prominent military voice to the growing debate over the future direction of Ukraine’s armed forces. With senior commanders, soldiers, veterans, and defense officials increasingly weighing in, the discussion surrounding reform has expanded far beyond the resignation of one minister—it has become a broader conversation about how Ukraine should continue adapting its military for the next stage of the war.
