EU draws lines demanding separation from Zambia Diplomatic Corps
… asserts independence following Mundubile’s 10-point dossier

By DAVID KANDUZA
THE European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM), has moved swiftly to draw an absolute line of separation between its team and the resident EU diplomatic delegation in Zambia..

The emergency clarification follows a high-stakes meeting where Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance opposition leader Brian Mundubile presented a scathing 10-point dossier alleging severe distortions in the country’s pre-election environment.

Meeting with the international mission in Lusaka, Mr Mundubile directly targeted the credibility of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) and the UPND.

He openly declared that the playing field for the highly anticipated August 13 general election was dangerously tilted.

At the core of Mundubile’s 10-point submission was an urgent warning against institutional bias and State-sponsored fear.

The dossier formally flagged persistent incidents of political violence designed to suppress opposition voters—particularly women and youth.

Mr Mundubile also detailed systematic structural anomalies, including the ECZ integrity crisis openly accusing the electoral body of being led by a partisan operative, making a ‘free and fair’ outcome impossible under its current framework.

He raised alarms over systemic pressure on public workers, teachers and council staff to compromise their neutrality to manipulate the vote.

Mr Mundubile alleged that the ruling party was actively offering K20 million bribes to opposition parliamentary candidates to force tactical withdrawals from the race.

Faced with these multi-front threats, the Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance leader appealed directly to EU chief observer Maria Arena and her team to massively scale-up their footprint across the country.

“We appeal to the European Union to deploy more election observers throughout Zambia, especially in politically sensitive areas, to strengthen transparency, build public confidence, and contribute to the credibility of the 2026 General Elections,” Mr Mundubile stated.

Mr Mundubile targeted systemic electoral structural concerns.

His dossier raised critical alarms regarding widespread incidents of political violence.

It highlighted the systematic intimidation of opposition supporters, specifically noting that women and the youth were being actively discouraged from freely participating in the democratic process.

Following the presentation, Mr Mundubile explicitly requested the international community to expand observer presence.

He appealed to the EU to scale-up its deployment to politically volatile and sensitive hotspots across Zambia to preserve transparency ahead of the upcoming August 2026 General Elections.

In an immediate counter-response to ensure its investigative neutral status, the newly deployed EU EOM issued an uncompromising institutional disclaimer.

The mission firmly stated that its observation wing acts completely autonomously from the standard, accredited EU Delegation to Zambia led by Ambassador Karolina Stasiak.

The officials emphasized that technical observation teams operate under a distinct operational mandate untethered to routine bilateral or economic diplomatic positions.

The EU EOM, however, confirmed it had taken note of the opposition’s complaints.

Moving forward, the mission pledged to independently analyse all legal, media and political complaints using its strict, pre-established international methodology

With the August 13 election fast reducing to a fierce two-horse race between Mr Mundubile and incumbent President Hakainde Hichilema, the 10-point dossier ensures that international eyes would be fixed firmly on Zambia’s democratic guardrails.
