Northern eclipsed by UPND wave
…as HH swings through Chilubi, Kaputa, Nsama and Mporokoso

By DAVID KANDUZA
PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema today July 16, 2026, shook Northern Province with a high-energy four-district campaign blitz, delivering a message of national unity, unprecedented infrastructure development, and political tolerance.

Addressing massive crowds in Chilubi, Kaputa, Nsama and Mporokoso districts, the Head of State firmly positioned the UPND as the only vehicle for guaranteed transformation ahead of the critical August 13, 2026, general elections.

The President’s first major stop brought him to Kaputa, a district currently mourning the recent tragic killing of a UPND supporter.

Addressing thousands of emotional residents, President Hichilema strongly condemned the act, declaring that political violence sparked by intolerant opposing views would never be tolerated under his watch.

He extended heartfelt condolences to the family, promising that justice would prevail and that Kaputa remained a peaceful home for every Zambian regardless of political affiliation.

Turning to local development, the Head of State electrified the crowd by pledging immediate interventions in the district’s long-standing infrastructure deficits.

He committed to constructing robust road networks and building a modern hospital to bring high-quality healthcare closer to the community.

Mr Hichilema expressed profound gratitude to the locals in their native tongue, saying, “Mwebena Kaputa. Mwe ba Twabwa, twatotela sana,” before urging them to secure their future by voting overwhelmingly for the UPND on August 13.

The campaign trail then moved to Chilubi Island, where the President addressed decades of neglect under previous administrations.

Acknowledging the residents’ core grievances, President Hichilema announced that the island’s lack of tarred roads would soon be a historical footnote.

He praised the people of Chilubi for choosing progress over empty promises, highlighting that the expanded Constituency Development Fund (CDF) would continue to act as the primary engine for local economic empowerment.

With stops extending across Nsama and Mporokoso, the President’s Northern Province swing successfully solidified the ruling party’s presence in traditional swing regions.

Observers noted that the massive turnout and the President’s direct, actionable developmental pledges have set a competitive benchmark for the upcoming election, turning Northern Province into a decisive battleground for the 2026 presidency.
