Captain Ibrahim Traoré says he is not the “new Thomas Sankara.”
Speaking in Burkina Faso’s Yaadga Region, President Ibrahim Traoré urged people to stop comparing him with the late revolutionary leader Thomas Sankara.
He said every era has its own challenges, and Burkina Faso today is very different from the 1980s.
Traoré added that there cannot be “two captains on one boat,” stressing that each leader has a different mission and must be judged by the realities of their time.
Despite the comparisons, many supporters continue to see similarities in their Pan-African vision, calls for self-reliance, and opposition to foreign influence.
Every generation needs leaders who solve today’s problems, not leaders who simply copy the past.
